The Strange Ranch off FM 210 would be an unlikely place to find the biblical characters, Mary and Joseph, heading for the Roman census in Bethlehem. On Wednesday, Sept. 22, because of a location shooting for a movie being made by the Gracias Choir, an entire cast and crew of over 135 people were on hand in the hills southwest of Archer City.

Writers from across the country will gather in Archer City to pay tribute to one of its native sons and author Larry McMurtry who died March 25, in Tucson, Ariz. In addition to the literary tribute, the Royal Theater will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of The Last Picture Show, the Peter Bogdanovich film made from McMurtry’s third book, with an outdoor showing of the film.

Brock “Big Juicy” Belcher ran for three touchdowns in the 7th grade Spartans’ 18-12 victory over the Seymour Panthers. Defensive standouts were Adam Barton and Jackson Ziccarelli. The Spartans are now 2-0 and play City View this week on the road.

The Holliday Lady Eagles’ cross country team continues to impress, this week taking eight of the top nine finishes at their home invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18.

The Archer City Lady Cats (16-11) closed out their pre-district slate with a hard-fought, five-set loss on the road to Burkburnett (26-24, 18-25, 9-25, 25-19, 15-11) on Friday, Sept. 17.
