Archer City to contract for water plant operations

The City of Archer City's licensed water operator Billy Ballard retired at the end of January. A licensed water operator is required so the City of Archer City was searching for a replacement. In the absence of a qualified candidate the City Council on Thursday, Feb. 25, in the regular monthly meeting approved a contract with FS Water Specialist to operate the new water plant and also provide licensed oversight of the sewer facilities.

The city of Archer City will no longer have a May election after one applicant pulled himself from the ballot while Holliday ISD will have one seat up for election after two filed for place one on the school board.

After dealing with some routine matters and getting updates from Shad Hanna, Amy Huseman and CD Knobloch, the Archer City ISD board entered executive session at 9:30 p.m. to discuss personnel, principal and athletic director contracts.

Storm weathers utility, water workers

Last week and even into this week, workers across the county have been struggling to cope with the effects of frozen pipes and water leaks. Archer City was hit the hardest in terms of water outages, with leak problems beginning in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Feb.

Weather conditions challenge ranchers

Archer County ranching families are a hardy breed. They deal with weather conditions on a regular basis to provide care for the livestock that provides a major part of the food supply in America. Last week’s snowfall and record breaking extreme cold were, hopefully, a once in a lifetime challenge.
