Sixty years and counting for Lloyd and Rita Schreiber who gathered with their family at their home in Scotland recently for an anniversary celebration. All eight children and spouses along with their 19 grandchildren and spouses and three great grandkids were present for a barbecue meal and 42-tournament. Chubby Knuckle Choir revisits Royal to benefit scholarship

The Chubby Knuckle Choir, hailing from central Texas, will bring back its self-proclaimed "Acid Funk-Soulgrass" style of music to Archer City this weekend. This is the fourth time the genre-mixing group has come to Archer City on the first Saturday of November, and it marks the third time they will help A Major Funding (Michael Wren and Sam Berube) raise money for the Marlon Meador Memorial Scholarship.

Statewide conference to kick off with McMurtry discussion

The 64th annual American Studies Association of Texas conference will kick off at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Midwestern State University’s Akin Auditorium with a discussion of the life and work of Archer City native Larry McMurtry. The public is welcome to attend.

County schools look to the future after UIL snapshot day

Thursday and Friday last week served as the UIL’s snapshot day, the day school’s submit official enrollment numbers to determine classification and districting for all UIL activities. The official results along with full district information will be released in February.
