Archer City elementary student on the mend after snake bite

A trip to watch a game at D-Bat Field in Wichita Falls should be a time for younger siblings of players to enjoy being outside. An open pasture south of the ball field with high grass and weeds was both an interesting place for children to investigate and apparently a habitat for rattlesnakes.

A Wichita Falls teenager was pronounced dead on the scene at an early morning wreck Thursday, April 29, in Archer County. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s preliminary crash investigation, Xavier Phoenix Ventura, 19, was driving a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup northbound on Hwy.

With the end of the school year approaching, the Archer County News collected the graduation plans for all three county high schools. Archer City High School: Archer City High School Principal John Sherrill said the district recently made the decision to move its graduation up from May 21 to 8 p.m.

County commissioners approves changes to 911 coverage map

The Archer County Commissioner’s Court approved the 911 coverage maps for fire departments and emergency medical services during its meeting Monday, April 26. “(Emergency Management Coordinator) Shane Wright and I had gotten together early in January, we’ve had problem in fire departments versus dispatch,” Sheriff Jack Curd said.

Texasville Opry returns to Royal Theater May 8 after 14-month absence due to COVID-19

COVID-19 hit everybody hard, including the Royal Theater. After the February 2020 show, which opened the 20th season of The Texasville Opry, things came to a screeching halt when society basically shut down due to the virus outbreak. Gary Beesinger, producer and emcee for the show, said he really had no option but to put the show on ice, hoping they could reopen in the fall of 2020 and complete the season. But that didn’t happen.

Luke Haehn of Archer City, Caleb Schroeder of Windthorst, and Kacee Teichman of Scotland were selected to receive the 2021 All American Scholar Award sponsored by Catholic Life Insurance. Each year, Catholic Life awards 35 scholarships worth $1,000 each to graduating high school seniors who have not only demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and academic achievements but have also gone above and beyond in their civic duties and made a difference in their communities.
