One dies in 281 wreck

A Colorado man passed away from his injuries following a single vehicle crash in Windthorst on the morning of Thursday, April 24. Around 6:20 a.m., Stephen Carl Hart, 66 of Eaton, Colo., was driving a 2003 Dodge pickup towing a 2019 Fous trailer southbound on 281 near Weinzaphel Loop when it left the roadway to the east and went through a fence.

Archer City council talks EMS contract renewal

The Archer City Council discussed the cost of renewal or seeking bids for ambulance service operations for Archer City and portions of Archer County during its meeting on Thursday, April 24. City Manager Ronnie Meyer said he spoke with American Medical Response’s Pete Wolf the previous week and Wolf verbally indicated the only increase to the city’s $500,000 contract with the company would be the consumer price index for healthcare.

WISD Election Day

Early voting is complete, and Election Day is Saturday, May 3, for Windthorst ISD voters to decide a new School Board Trustee Place 5. Windthorst ISD was the only county entity to have a contested race for the May 3 election as voters must decide between Nicole Schroeder and Jody Clay Conrady to be the new school board member.

Lakeside City approves Driftwood replat request

The Lakeside City Council approved a replat request for 301 Driftwood Drive following a public hearing on the matter on Friday, April 18. The 301 Driftwood Drive property was the subject of a heated conversation between Mayor Pro Tem Colby Kafer and future council member Larry Sturges following the approval of a variance request to build one house on the two lots in the March 18 council meeting.

Holliday moves forward on water line

The Holliday City Council supported working with the Texas Department of Transportation on the relocation of its Trunk Water Line on Hwy. 82/277 between Holliday and Wichita Falls during its meeting on Monday, April 21.

TxDOT reviews Archer County crash analysis and safety initiatives

Texas Department of Transportation Graham Engineer Zachary Husen presented the departments Road to Zero fatalities safety initiatives to the Archer County Commissioner’s Court on Monday, April 14. Husen said TxDOT’s goals is to have the number of fatalities on Texas roads cut in half by 2035 and reduced to zero by 2050.

Lakeside City approves 2223 financial audit

The Lakeside City Council approved the city’s 2022-2023 financial audit during its meeting on Tuesday, April 15. Mike Edgin of Edgin, Parkman, Fleming, and Fleming, was on hand to present the audit and discussed the delay it took in completing the audit.

Scotland town clean up May 3

The City of Scotland is sponsoring a Town Clean-Up on Saturday, May 3. This is a free service! All residents are encouraged to clean up their property and place items into the large dumpsters located at the Scotland Trash Collection Center on Avenue I behind the fire department.
