Christians must resist all attempts to turn Christianity into a political party. That does not mean that faith lacks consequences for politics. We all have a moral duty to cast our vote. Christians must work toward the common good and a just social order. The role of the Church is to hold up moral values, not to provide a specific political blueprint for translating those values into political choices. We have a strong interest in the maintenance of freedoms; freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of conscience, the right to conscientious objection, and a fundamental right to life, liberty and to private property.
