Two years ago, the Archer County Museum, which was housed in the 1910 jail, was sold and turned into a nonprofit. The Museum was purchased by an informal group, consisting of Dan Haile, Jerry Phillips and John Phillips, however, the building and its contents never belonged to these individuals as they immediately created a 501(c)(3). Since February of 2020, the nonprofit has had ownership status of the building and the collection within it. You may be wondering what has been happening with it since? On the surface, not much has really changed and due to COVID the project was put on hold until January of 2021. Over this last year, we have been hard at work putting in place policies for the museum’s future and cleaning out the inside of the jail.

Get ready ya’ll. The 2022 Home & Garden Expo is this Saturday (26th), and Sunday (27th). Doors open at 9am Saturday, 11am Sunday. Get your advance tickets from The Kemp Center for the Arts or perhaps your favorite nonprofit. This is a very good deal for local nonprofit orgs. They keep some of the money from ticket sales to further the cause. So you can support the nonprofit community and the Arts Council at the same time. Nonprofits have become an outstanding part of living in today’s culture. Whatever cause you would like to help with you can bet there is a nonprofit org out there doing the work, educating the public, and turning your time and/ or money into something worthwhile.

Pot culture. Many people swear by it. Many pots add a decorative aspect to the landscape outdoors and indoors. We can also fashion pots from any old item like an old sink, wash tub, bathtub, horse trough, etc. My favorites have always been hollow logs. Then you can fashion your own pots out of sun dried clay, hyper tuffa, or if you own a potter’s wheel and have a kiln you can really have some fun. Nila had that skill and we did have a pretty large kiln for a while until carpel tunnel in her wrists forced us to sell our equipment. Even P.J. and I got into the act of molding our own pots. I miss those days.
