Once again I get to report 1 3/10” rain from Saturday evening. A cold front will pass through sometime Monday morning. Our daytime highs will drop into the sweet spot; upper 80’s. Our good fortune comes with misfortune for others. I saw a report with videos of cooked clams on Pacific beaches, the 100+ temps were more than they could handle. When asked, the biologists said they didn’t know but the death toll on small aquatic life such as these will be in the untold billions. Did not say if any people were eating them but I suppose the shorebirds are having a fine picnic. That heat bubble has moved further south but still west of the Rockies. We may get a taste of it yet.

For the adventurers and dreamers of the world, there are no limits. Wiley Hardeman Post was born on his parents’ cotton farm near Canton in November 1898. He was born on a farm with no electricity in a time when airplanes were still just a dream, but within a few years, he would become one of the most famous pilots in the world.

Last night we got near 1 ½” here at the house. That is close to our monthly July average in one night. So the abnormally wet and cooler summer continues and kicks that hot and dry heat bubble a little further down the road. The plants are all happy. We humans will have to endure the humidity (heat stress has been above 100(f) almost daily), the skeeters, gnats, and chiggers a while longer. I’m OK with it.

Independence Day! Planning on spending a nice comfortable day at home. Still, P.J. and I were up early for a Sunday and dropped a large dead section of one of our prized big mesquites. Ladder fully extended I was up maybe 20’ from the ground where the dead part was over a foot in diameter. I figure the top branches were near 30’ from the ground. Most of the triple trunked monster mesquite still lives and is healthy. Did any of you notice the mesquites are in bloom now? A full month to six weeks behind what we consider normal. Have you noticed the serious cold weather in February knocked the mistletoe back? There is good and bad in almost all weather anomalies.
