David Andrew Roewe

David Andrew Roewe, 65, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 7, 2023. He was born in Jacksboro on April 28, 1958, to Henry J. and Shirley A. Roewe, the second of six children. He lived in Windthorst until the age of 11 when his family moved to Oklahoma City. He attended Bishop John Carroll Elementary School and was a 1976 graduate of Bishop Mc-Guinness High School. Immediately after graduating, he dedicated five years of service to the United States Marine Corp’s 3rd Battalion of the 1st Marine Regiment based out of Camp Pendleton, CA. He attained the rank of sergeant.

The Mohave Desert is burning. My first thought was, “How in the world do you catch a desert on fire?” Widely spaced plants evolved to store water for long periods, plants that are used to hot/dry conditions. On fire? Unheard of. I had to watch the newsreels and there it was.

The Archer Public Library concluded its Summer Reading Program this week. The library had 18 participants in the reading contest who logged 257 hours of reading! The library hosted four Summer Reading performances which had 198 attendees. We also hosted an 8-week Art Camp on the Go in partnership with the Arts Council Wichita Falls and had 19 campers join us for creative fun in the library!
