There were a lot of ups and downs for the three high school baseball teams in the county, but they managed to come together and have another successful year on the baseball diamond. From Coaching changes to first-year coaches making their debuts, to perennial powerhouses playing fresh talent, Archer City, Holliday, and Windthorst all were able overcome adversity and find a bright spot in their seasons.

Tornado hits Windthorst, Western Clay County

A tornado touched down in Windthorst Saturday, May 25, damaging the school bus barn and a few homes in Clay County. According to Windthorst VFD Chief Dale Scheffe, the fire department had been monitoring the storm since the tornado warning went out when it was over Megargel.

Archer County Sheriff Jack Curd provided an update to the commissioner’s court on deputy Randall Quick’s health following a car crash on Friday, May 24. According to a Texas Department of Public Safety release, a 2014 GMC Sierra was travelling southbound about eight miles north of Archer City on Hwy.

Holliday High School saw 89 high school seniors walk the stage to receive their high school diplomas on Friday, May 24. While for most this was the first school diploma they received, for four Holliday friends, this was their second time gracing a graduation stage.

Lakeside City talks requests from property outside of town

The Lakeside City council heard and discussed a request for water meters and a two-inch water tap for the property between Lakeside City East and West during its meeting on Tuesday, May 21. Property Owner Tom Finkler, Real Estate Broker Jody Brannen, and Title Examiner Spencer Riley presented the request to the council.

TGCA names all-state track

Body
Four Windthorst Trojanettes and four Holliday Lady Eagles made the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Track team following another successful year in the field and on the track. For Windthorst, Senior runners Cameron Belcher, Saige Anderson, Annikah Frank, and junior thrower Gabby Hoegger all received the All-State honors. For Holliday, sophomore Kenli Atwood, junior Breagan Blowers, freshman Sammi Kirkland, and senior Simone Mouras all received the honors.
