Salvation Army branch meets community needs

The Salvation Army is a massive international organization, yet in Archer City there is a small but mighty branch making a difference in the lives of its residents. The mission of the Salvation Army is “to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination,” and the local board is committed to doing just that.

Archer County Judge Randy Jackson reported on Monday, Dec. 7, that the county will remain unexempt from GA-29 including a facial covering mandate which was issued by Governor Greg Abbott.

Holliday’s Bree Zellers inks with Cisco College

Bree Zellers is a model of perseverance. The Holliday senior overcame an ACL tear in her sophomore year before being sidelined with a torn meniscus her junior season.

Despite the injuries, Zellers lifted the Lady Eagles to new heights in 2020. Holliday made its deepest postseason run since 2012, advancing to the Class 3A Region I Regional Finals before bowing out to eventual state champion Bushland. The Lady Eagles closed the season with a 24-5 record and a district title, largely in part to Zellers’ 261 kills, 42 aces, 25 blocks and 527 digs.

Jackson, Jurecek, Marchand headline District 5-3A honors

Holliday senior Crae Jackson nabbed District 5-3A Overall MVP honors while senior Crosby Jurecek picked up Defensive MVP accolades and sophomore Peyton Marchand earned Newcomer of the Year. The Eagles finished the season at 11-2 with a district championship and appearance in the regional semifinals.

Bates tabbed District 6-2A Offensive MVP

Archer City junior quarterback Ty Bates garnered District 6-2A Offensive MVP honors after leading the Wildcats to a 6-4 record and berth in the area round of the playoffs. Bates accounted for 36 touchdowns and 2,824 yards of total offense.
