Praising God Out Loud

Body
I’m not much of a singer. Ok, maybe that is an understatement. I sing about as well as a rooster crowing in an early morning. It’s not a very pretty sound if you ask me (or those who sit next to me in church). But here is the thing, to me that has never mattered. Even when I was a child going to church on Sunday morning, I have enjoyed singing the songs even though I knew I was not making an enjoyable sound. I believe this is because I know who I am singing to. When I read the Psalms, they are full of proclamations of God’s awesomeness. The psalmist often tells the reader to sing to the Lord! It’s as if singing to the Lord about his greatness is the natural response of the redeemed. The redeemed cannot help but to sing true words about what God has done for them. That is why the words of “It is well” resonate so deeply to every believer. We sing it is well because Christ has made us well in his life, death, burial, and resurrection. Often the songs we sing in church are true testimonies of God’s character, the redemption story, what God has done, or what God will do. So, every Sunday morning we should sing out loud no matter if we sound like a rooster crowing.
