County proclaims Oct. 3 - 9 as National 4-H Week

The Archer County Commissioner’s Court voted to recognize and proclaim Oct. 3 through Oct. 9 as national 4-H week in Archer County during its meeting Monday, Sept. 27. The commissioners also voted to approve the flying of the 4-H flag under the Texas flag at the Archer County courthouse during National 4-H week.

The Strange Ranch off FM 210 would be an unlikely place to find the biblical characters, Mary and Joseph, heading for the Roman census in Bethlehem. On Wednesday, Sept. 22, because of a location shooting for a movie being made by the Gracias Choir, an entire cast and crew of over 135 people were on hand in the hills southwest of Archer City.

Writers to honor McMurtry with literary tribute

Writers from across the country will gather in Archer City to pay tribute to one of its native sons and author Larry McMurtry who died March 25, in Tucson, Ariz. In addition to the literary tribute, the Royal Theater will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of The Last Picture Show, the Peter Bogdanovich film made from McMurtry’s third book, with an outdoor showing of the film.
