Sales tax rebates drop for state in March

The cities of Holliday, Scotland and Windthorst saw an increase in sales tax in March than they did in the same time frame in 2023. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced on March 2 that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $980.9 million in local sales tax allocations for March 2.2 percent less than in March 2023.

Archer County held its Republican Convention on Saturday, March 23, along with every other county in the state of Texas. Leading up to the county convention were precinct conventions, all of which were held on March 18.

Archer City ISD hires Hartgraves as next superintendent

The Archer City ISD school board officially hired Hico Superintendent Jon Hartgraves as the district’s next superintendent during its board meeting Tuesday, March 26. Hartgraves has served as superintendent of Hico ISD since 2012 and served as superintendent of Gordon ISD before that.

April proclaimed as child abuse awareness month

The Archer County Commissioner’s Court proclaimed April as Child Abuse Awareness Month during its meeting on Monday, March 25. According to the proclamation, during 2022 nearly 3.1 million children received either an investigation response or alternative response across the nation.

Lakeside talks generator grant

The Lakeside City Council received an update on its FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Project for a generator during its meeting on Tuesday, March 19. Texas Department of Emergency Management’s Lance Liggett was on hand to explain where the city sat in the process.
