Greg Vieth’s time as the mayor of Windthorst is coming to an end this Saturday after he chose to not run for another term. Vieth was born and raised in Windthorst.
The youngest mayor in the history of Archer City will be leaving his position soon, after electing to not run for another term. Kelvin Green was born and raised in Archer City and was just 18 years old when he was elected as mayor in 2014.
The city of Holliday, Holliday Police Department and Archer County communities are mourning the loss of police chief Joe Chunn after he passed away on Wednesday, April 27. Chunn went to work for the Holliday Police Department in May of 1994.
In a special called board meeting Monday, April 25, the Windthorst ISD school board voted unanimously to hire Jennifer Forsythe as the new principal of Windthorst High School and Junior High. Forsythe comes to Windthorst from Crowell ISD where she is currently serving as district principal and acting superintendent.
Back in my rodeo days (about 50 years ago) I was set to ride bulls at the Wichita County Mounted Patrol in Wichita Falls on a Saturday night. Arriving at the rodeo I drew a bull that I had seen buck several times. He always came out cranking it to the left. I was ready to win some money and a new buckle. Sheriff Jack Curd provided the Archer County Commissioner’s Court with an update on the department’s vehicle fleet program during the commissioner’s court meeting Monday, April 25. Curd told the commissioners he wanted provide them with a full picture of what the department’s vehicle fleet looks like and why he asks for the vehicles that he does.
The city council of Archer City approved making Hyper-Reach as its new emergency alert system at a cost of $500 per year during its meeting Thursday, April 21. County Emergency Management Coordinator Shane Wright presented the information to the council.
District Attorney of the 97th Court, Casey Hall, announced her office had reached plea deal of manslaughter on April 12 for Saconn Ayala in the death of John Lewis Helms. Ayala was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
