City Wide Clean Up Scheduled for Archer City

The annual City Wide Clean Up for the City of Archer City is scheduled for Monday, April 18 through Sunday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily with the exception of Sunday, April 24, when the hours will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

New Archer City entry monuments honor McMurtry

Welcome to Archer City monuments were installed in the fall of 2012 at the north and east entries to town. The design received mixed reviews since they were installed. Unfortunately many of the comments were not positive. The Archer City Growth and Development Board has been working on replacement monuments for quite a while.

County extends, then rescinds burn ban

The Archer County Commissioners voted to extend the county’s burn ban until May 1 during a special called meeting Friday, April 1. After a thunderstorm hit the county April 4, County Judge Randy Jackson rescinded the order on Tuesday, April 5.

Editorial cartoonist Ben Sargent once penned a masterful sketch of a newspaperman — a skinny, bug-eyed fellow in a baggy suit with a press card in the band of his porkpie hat. The unnamed journalist was depicted in the simple act of entering a dark room at city hall and switching on a light.
