Early voting is underway for the May 26 Republican and Democratic primaries runoff election. While no local races are on the ballot, Archer County residents will have their chance to decide their party’s nominee in a handful of statewide races.

TxDOT Details Hwy. 79 Bridge Delays

The Texas Department of Transportation said a bridge replacement project on Highway 79 north of Archer City has been delayed by weather, manufacturing issues and contractor staffing shortages, pushing the expected completion date to fall 2026.

The Archer County Commissioner’s Court approved new subdivision regulations during its meeting on Monday, May 11. The commissioners have been working with Assistant County Attorney Tyler Sales for over six months on revamping the regulations.

WISD Board Approve s Facility Improvements

The Windthorst ISD school board approved facility and ground improvements across the district during its school board meeting on Monday, May 11. In its March meeting, the board had approved a $200,000 budget amendment for flooring repairs of the hallway outside the library.

Community Pushes Holliday ISD to Reconsider Coach Arbogast Contract Decision

Over 40 Holliday community members attended the Holliday ISD School Board meeting on Monday, May 11 to express their support for current Holliday High School softball coach Billy Arbogast after a vacancy for his position was posted on Region 9’s website that same Monday.
During the open forum portion of the meeting, several parents, current, and former Holliday athletes and students gave their personal testimonies regarding Coach Arbogast.
