It’s hard to believe players report to fall camp in under two weeks. It feels like yesterday we were chasing baseball and softball teams around the state for deep playoff runs.

The Archer City Wildcats are hosting a midnight practice on Monday, Aug. 1, the first official day of practice, to kickoff the fall sports season.

Archer County Extension Office will present “Health Literacy for Older Texans” beginning on August 1 at Archer Service Center. The program includes five sessions on making healthy lifestyle choices, understanding Medicare benefits, communicating well with your doctor, managing medications, and finding reliable information on the internet. Adults over age 65, family members and caregivers of older adults, and health care professionals are encouraged to attend.

The cities of Archer City, Holliday, Lakeside City, Megargel and Scotland saw an increase in sales tax returns this month than they did in the same time frame in 2021. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar released on Thursday, July 7, that he would send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $1.03 billion in local sales tax allocations for July.

On Saturday, the United States will transition the 10-digit National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to 988 – an easy-to-remember three-digit number for 24/7 crisis care. The lifeline, which also links to the Veterans Crisis Line, follows a three-year joint effort by the U.S.
