Quilt of Valor presented to James Simpson

The Quilt of Valor Foundation, established in 2003 ,awards Quilts of Valor to veterans touched by war. The quilt symbolizes and provides comfort and peace for the recipient. James “Jim” Simpson, a Vietnam veteran, was awarded a quilt at a special presentation ceremony held last Saturday afternoon at the home of Jerry and Denise Cooper on Davis Road.

FUMC Pumpkin Patch in Archer City brings color and fun to community

For the last five years, members of the Archer City First United Methodist Church have sponsored a Pumpkin Patch to raise money for the children’s ministry. This year, since the children’s ministry has been put on hold due to COVID-19 concerns, part of the money raised will be donated to the Archer Service Center.

ACPD offering rewards for capture of fictitious character

ACPD is asking for your help in capturing the dangerous wanted fugitive Michael Myers who has been seen lurking about Archer City. Myers escaped from an asylyum for the criminally insane and was last seen peering into the Archer County News and trying to steal the publisher’s car. If you spot Michael Myers in Archer City, all you need to do is take a selfie with him. Your information will be entered into a drawing to be held every Friday a 7:00 p.m. for a $10.00 certificate to local eateries. One entry per person per week. You must provide your contatct information at the time you get your photo taken. Drawings are held each Friday at 7:00p.m leading up to Halloween. Tag the Archer City PD on Facebook with your photo and help them capture Michael Myers!

Bald eagle is spotted in Scotland field

Last week Scotland resident Matt Yell got a call from his brother-in-law Matt Lindemann to come and see something interesting in the field of Lindemann’s parents, Wayne and Laverne Lindemann. It was a bald eagle snacking on a wild boar that Matt Lindeman had recently shot. Yell grabbed his camera, hopped in his truck, and headed to the field. He was able to capture a few photos of the magnificent bird before it soared away.

Archer City couple loses home to fire

Last Sunday an early morning fire caused extensive damage to the home of Lynn and Nita Lewis at 513 E. Main St in Archer City. There were no injuries reported. An account to help the Lewis’s with expenses has been established at American National Bank. Anyone wishing to help with the recovery efforts should make contributions to this account.
