District Attorney of the 97th Court, Casey Hall, announced her office had reached plea deal of manslaughter on April 12 for Saconn Ayala in the death of John Lewis Helms. Ayala was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The city council of Lakeside City agreed to make a payment to Longo Landscape and Stone for $36,932.50 to begin work on a new park for the east side of the town during its meeting Tuesday, April 19. This money spent will create a pavilion with seating, parking spaces and a place to set playground equipment on the city owned lots at the intersection of Billie Joyce and Jo Ann.

The Archer County Museum and Arts Center put up a fence exhibition around its property on Thursday, April 21, while the three-story 1910 jail remains closed to the public. This exhibit shares the stories of a world saddle bronc champion, hotel owner, rare sheep breed er, a tree to mark water and more, all from Archer County.

Early voting is underway for the May 7 Uniform Election that will decide new members of three county towns and all three county school districts. Early voting will be from 8 a.m.

Friday, April 15 Archer City 14, Petrolia 7 Archer City (11-6) capitalized on windy conditions that forced six Petrolia errors in a 14-7 win over the Pirates. The Wildcats move into first place in District 9-2A with series against Quanah and Vernon Northside remaining.
