Texas rent relief program offers help for area landlords, renters

Local organizations are spreading the word about a statewide program in Texas to assist renters struggling to avoid eviction and landlords who have not received rent payments because of the eviction moratorium. Some $1.3 billion in emergency assistance is available through the Texas Rent Relief Program. The funds were allocated through the Coronavirus Relief Bill passed by Congress and are designed to reduce evictions by covering rent and utility expenses starting as far back as March 2020.

TDSHS offering immunization clinc in Archer City

The Texas Department of State Health Services has appointments available for adult and childhood immunizations at their Field Office located at 511 S Cedar Street in Archer City. DSHS offers all back-toschool vaccines for kindergarten, seventh grade and college entry, as well as all infant and childhood immunizations. Adult immunizations are available to those who qualify.

The Archer County Commissioners Court proposed its elected official salaries, tax rate and set a hearing on the proposed tax rate and budget for Fiscal Year 2022 in its meeting Monday, Aug. 9.

The Humane Society of Wichita County posted a picture on Facebook of a dog seized by law enforcement in Archer City. Cheryl Heineken, Executive Director at the animal shelter, referred to him as Alfred. Rachael Arbuckle and her son Oliver took an immediate interest.

Archer Public Library continues growth

The Archer Public Library was established in 1968 with Virginia Parsley Talyor serving as the first librarian. The non-profit was originally housed in a small room behind Archer City City Hall before moving to its current location at 105 N. Center.
