The Holliday City Council elected to switch insurance providers for the city's employees after it's current provider Texas Municipal League's Health Pool proposed a 63% increase in rates during its council meeting on Monday, Oct. 9.

Some observations I have about grief

Sometimes in life, things happen that are almost unbearable. Grief doesn't announce that it's coming, and almost always blows in like an unexpected storm. I hope in defining some of the realities of sorrow that it might help someone who feels stuck in their pain. One of the verses that has always given me hope, is Psalm 34:18 'The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves such as have a contrite spirit.'

City of Scotland clean-up

The City of Scotland is sponsoring a Town Clean-Up Day on Saturday, Oct. 21. This is a free service. All residents are encouraged to clean up their property and place items into the large dumpsters located at the Scotland Trash Collection Center on Avenue I behind the fire department. The gates will be open Saturday morning at 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.or until dumpsters are full. Once the dumpsters reach capacity, the gates will be locked. Please do not put items outside the fence or throw items over the fence. Also, below is a list of items not accepted at any Texas landfill:

Eagles blank Snyder on homecoming 31-0

Holliday’s defense continued its dominance, limiting Snyder to 92 yards of total offense in a 31-0 blanking of the Tigers to lift the Eagles to 4-1 with district play kicking off this week. The Eagles rolled up 417 yards of total offense, including 247 on the ground, averaging nearly 10 yards a touch.

Early voting begins Oct . 23

Early voting on the Nov. 7 Constitutional Amendment Election, the sale of malt beverages and wine for off-premises consumption only in the city of Holliday and a $33 million bond election for Olney Hamilton Hospital will run from Oct. 23 to Nov. 3.

Levi Hoffman is a senior attending Windthorst High School. He’s the treasurer for his class and president of National Honor Society. He is the son of Brad and Jessica Hoffman and siblings with Cade and Jace. He owns two black Labrador dogs named Kylo and Loki who are brothers along with two cats who are siblings as well. He intends to show rabbits this year and absolutely adores animals. He also participated/will participate in UIL Spelling and One Act Play. He enjoys writing and listening to music.
