Six county students catch calves, earn purchase certificate at FWSSR

Gage Talley, Brody Frazier, Kensley Vieth, Zoie Price, Isabelle Parkey, Clay Miller who are members of Archer County 4-H, Windthorst FFA, Holliday FFA and Archer City FFA caught a calf during the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble, earning a $500 purchase certificate for a show heifer and the chance for up to $16,000 in scholarship awards.

In Kay Warren’s book entitled Choose Joy, she states that “Joy is a choice.” Then she goes on to give the following definition of joy: “Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately that everything is going to be all right, and the determined choice to praise God in all things.” 1 I have kept her defini I have kept her definition in the Notes of my iPhone, since I read her book. During a walk in the park, I felt prompted to review it again and reflect.

The Windthorst Spartans basketball team hosted the Windthorst Junior High Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 22. The 8th grade team went 3-0 and finished in first place in the tournament. They defeated Burk B, Jacksboro (41-27), and Muenster (44-43) in overtime. The 8th grade Spartans also defeated Seymour (39-20) on Monday, January 24 to move their record to 11-1.

THSCA Announce State Finalist for the NFF National High School Academic Excellence Award

The Texas High School Coaches Association announced the official list of State Finalists of Texas for the 2021-22 National Football Foundation National High School Academic Excellence Award. The award is the first nationwide recognition honoring individual high school football teams for excellence in the classroom with a 3.0 or above grade point average. Thirty total state high school associations are currently participating across the country.

Dine-in returning for Scotland KOC sausage meal

Make plans now to come to Scotland Sunday, Feb. 13, Super Bowl Sunday, for the annual German Sausage meal. The Scotland Knights of Columbus are pleased to announce that, once again, patrons can enjoy that one-of-akind dining experience this year. The German sausage meal sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Scotland Council #1715 has become a Super Bowl Sunday event for the past 42 years.

Royal announces early 2022 schedule

The Royal Theater stage will feature the return of the Texasville Opry for three shows in 2022. In addition, thanks to grants from the Texas Commission on the Arts, Brave Combo and The Legend of Big Bend, an orchestral, audio-visual experience performed by Montopolis, are a part of the Royal Theater Live lineup.
The Legend of Big Bend is a multi-disciplinary art exhibit that includes music, film, and audio interviews. There will be an orchestra on the floor of the Royal and a big screen presentation of breathtaking images of Big Bend National Park on June 4. Courtesy photo
