Archer County Judge Randy Jackson reported Monday, Jan. 11, that the county will remain included in the GA- 29 mandate including a facial coverings which was issued by Governor Greg Abbott due to large positive COVID-19 case numbers in the county and update vaccine distribution.

Conservation Reserve Program general signup open

Agricultural producers and private landowners interested in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) can sign up for the popular program beginning Monday, Jan. 4, until Feb. 12. The competitive program, administered by US- DA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA), provides annual rental payments for land devoted to conservation purposes.

The usual new year swear-in ceremony scheduled for Jan. 1 was delayed due to weather. The swearing in of public officials took place last Monday morning, Jan. 4. Archer County, Precinct 1, newly elected Commissioner, Wade Scarbrough was sworn in by his brother, Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace, Corky Scarbrough. Candace Scarbrough, Wade’s wife, accompanied him for the ceremony.

Quick action saves structure from car fire damage

Peggy Matus, of Archer City, was making a routine trip to a local store for some breakfast when her car started smoking. The routine trip turned into a very scary situation. The car started to smoke on her way home so she sped up to get it to the carport at her house on West Chestnut.
