The Windthorst ISD School Board approved amending the Board Policy DC Local which will give Superintendent Jason Nolan hiring authority during summer months in its board meeting on Monday, June 9. The new amended policy reads ‘From May 1 to September 1 the board delegates the superintendent final authority to employ all contractual personnel.

County approves funding for new TAC employee

The Archer County Commissioner’s Court approved the funding for hiring a third full-time employee to the Tax Assessor- Collector’s Office during its meeting on Monday, June 9. Archer County Tax-Assessor Collector Dawn Vieth had presented the request in a previous meeting but the court had asked the auditor to look into the numbers behind adding an additional employee.

Texas 4 -H Roundup ‘sparks’ youth leadership

The 2025 Texas 4-H Roundup lit up the Texas A&M University campus as 2,200 attendees from across the state gathered June 2–5 for a high-energy week of competitions, scholarships, hands-on learning and new programs focused on belonging, mentorship and workforce-ready skills.

County May Tax Rebates

The cities of Archer City, Megargel and Scotland saw an increase in sales tax rebates in May than they did in the same time frame in 2024. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.3 billion in local sales tax allocations for May, 4.5 percent more than in May 2024.

Archer County shines in Oil Bowl Classic

Several seniors from across the county competed in the 88th annual Maskat Shrine Oil Bowl Classic for volleyball, basketball and football last week. Basketball On Friday, June 6, Windthorst’s Megg Lindley and Isabel Bussey played for the West team in basketball, while Archer City’s Adelyn Harvey played for the East team.

Holliday discuss water, wastewater rates

The Holliday City Council discussed the water and wastewater rates during their council meeting on Monday, May 19 following a presentation on a water study by the Texas Rural Water Association over the city of Holliday’s water and wastewater.

Former Archer County Pastor arrested for child grooming

Body
A former Holliday pastor was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety for alleged child grooming. According to DPS Sergeant Juan Gutierrez, Texas Rangers served a warrant and arrested 31-year-old Nathan Patrick Roach Friday, May 30, for child grooming, a third-degree felony.
