Luke 9:23 Jesus offers here a road map to heaven and happiness. Coming to Christ is the way to heaven. It is also the only real happiness, a happiness that can never be purchased, even with all the wealth of the world. This passage is not some obscure passage that differs from Christ’s normal teaching. It is also found in Matthew 16:24-24 and Mark 8:34-38.

Christianity, Church, Politics and Conscience

Body
Christians must resist all attempts to turn Christianity into a political party. That does not mean that faith lacks consequences for politics. We all have a moral duty to cast our vote. Christians must work toward the common good and a just social order. The role of the Church is to hold up moral values, not to provide a specific political blueprint for translating those values into political choices. We have a strong interest in the maintenance of freedoms; freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of conscience, the right to conscientious objection, and a fundamental right to life, liberty and to private property.
