Windthorst Elementary School Principal and City Council Member Ashley Schroeder is hosting a blood drive in memory of her son, Chase, on the fiveyear anniversary of a fatal car wreck. Schroeder was travelling to Wichita Falls on Aug.

On what may be the hottest day (so far) of summer 2024, as I begin writing, it is 113(f) in the shade out my back door at 1pm. It was already 108 at 11am when I went out to feed the fish some cat food. The flowers and veggies I have left all standing and not wilted (yet). I have one tomato vine that might live. The rest are going down. I have one pepper plant that looks OK but no peppers. I have three squash still hanging in there (no squash bugs this year) but have not made a squash since June. I watered all this at sundown yesterday. I have been watering only twice weekly to conserve water. We don’t have city water out here. My 3,000 gal. rainwater collection system ran dry two weeks ago so we are obliged to run city water out from the nursery.

Chrisitian Bachmann, son of Colonel Christopher and Carrie Bachmann III, of Burke, Virginia and grandson of Chris and Carolyn Bachmann of Scotland graduated June 4, 2024 from Lake Braddock High School (6A). He earned his Eagle Scout badge in his sophomore year. Christian has excelled academically with a 4.25 GPA. He qualified for Virginia state cross country his sophomore, junior, and senior years with his team taking third place at state his senior year. He qualified for state indoor and outdoor track as a junior and senior in the 4x800 relay, 1000m, 1600m, and 3200m. His 4x800 relay broke the school indoor record at state his senior year with 7:50.72 and the team finished second. He finished 6th in the 1600m indoor at state to broke a 36 year high school record with a 4:17.31. He ran a season best in the 1000m at district with a 2:31.14. At indoor nationals he broke his own school record in the 1600m with a 4:15.8. In outdoor he state qualified for 4x800 relay (7:52.41), 800m (1:56.40), 1600m (4:13.71), and 3200m (9:25.93). At the outdoor state meet in the 4x800 relay the team won second place with a 7:46.81 and he won 5th place at the in the 1600m.

The Windthorst Trojanettes traveled to Paradise to battle the 3A Lady Panthers in volleyball for their season-opener on Tuesday, Aug. 13. The Trojanettes looked to exact some revenge as they lost 3-0 last year against the Lady Panthers, and with several key Windthorst players graduated, Coach Bussey and the rest of the Windthorst faithful were eager to see how this year’s team matched up.

The Holliday Lady Eagles start off the 24-25 volleyball season with a 3-1 set victory over the Graham Lady Blues on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
