If you’re worried about the cost of Back-to-School immunizations for the 2024-2025 school year, the Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) program may be able to help. The TVFC Program provides immunizations for children who are 18 years of age or younger and meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria: - Enrolled or eligible for participation in the Medicaid program - American Indian or Alaskan Native - Uninsured (children who do not have health insurance) - Underinsured (children with private insurance but coverage does not include vaccines or only includes select vaccines) The Texas Department of State Health Services is offering Back-to-School immunizations at their office in Archer City. If your child is entering Kindergarten, seventh grade or college next year, we can help you with required immunizations! A parent or guardian over the age of 19 must accompany a minor under the age of 18.

Local program needs volunteers to serve as long-term care Ombudsmen

Nortex Regional Planning Commission, Area Agency on Aging Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is seeking volunteers in Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cottle, Foard, Hardman, Jack, Montague, Wichita Falls, and Young counties to advocate for residents living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Volunteer ombudsmen educate residents, families, and facility staff to protect the health, safety, welfare, and rights of long-term care residents.

A familiar face is the new Windthorst High School Principal. Former Trojans assistant coach Daniel Williams was hired this summer to serve as the new principal after Assistant Superintendent Darla Tackett served as interim principal last year.

Sales tax rebates rise for most towns in county

The cities of Holliday, Lakeside City, Megargel, Scotland and Windthorst saw an increase in sales tax in July than they did in the same time frame in 2023. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced on July 10 that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for July 0.2 percent less than in July 2023.
