Eagles fall to stout Gunter defense

For the eighth time in seven years, the Holliday Eagles took on the #1 ranked Gunter Tigers to write another chapter in the two’s bitter rivalry on the gridiron on Thursday, Dec. 5 at the stunning Coach Kenny Deel Stadium in Melissa. This meeting marks the sixth time these squads have met in the playoffs, with the Tigers taking all six previous matchups.

Eagles defang Rattlers in Regional Semifinals

The sun shined and the weather was as beautiful as it could get for playoff football, as the Holliday Eagles battled the Tolar Rattlers on Friday, Nov. 29 at Rams Stadium in Mineral Wells for the Regional Semifinals playoff round. It didn’t take long for the Eagles to take an insurmountable lead, ultimately securing the 4620 victory.

Pirates sink Trojans Season

For just the third time since 2006, the #6 ranked Windthorst Trojans faced off against the #4 ranked Collinsville Pirates on the gridiron on Friday, Nov. 29 at Porcupine Stadium in Springtown for the Regional Semifinals playoff round. These two met just two years prior for the Regional Semifinals round, where the Pirates narrowly eked out a win over the Trojans.

Lindley, Steinruck earn district MVP honors

It was another successful year on the volleyball court for the three high school teams in the county. The Archer City Lady Cats continued their playoff appearance streak, making it to the Bi-District round. The Holliday Lady Eagles blazed through their district and most of their playoff opponents before falling in the Regional Finals round. The Windthorst Trojanettes silenced all doubters, taking district before advancing all the way to the State-Semifinals before being eliminated.

Girls Basketball Roundup

The Archer City, Windthorst, and Holliday Girls’ basketball teams finished up another week on the hardwood over the Thanksgiving break. The Lady Cats competed in the Petrolia Classic on Monday, Nov. 25 and Tuesday, Nov. 26, while the Lady Eagles travelled to Bowie to contend in the Gayno Shelton’s Hoopin’ into the Holidays Classic on the same days. The Trojanettes hosted the Jacksboro Tigerettes on Tuesday as well.

With volleyball season finally coming to an end, Archer City, Holliday, and Windthorst all kicked off their varsity girls’ basketball season these last two weeks. Archer City 36 Holliday 33 The Archer City Lady Cats opened their season with a home-game against the Holliday Lady Eagles on Monday, Nov.

Hamill runs roughshod over Blue Ridge

On Friday, Nov. 22 at Porcupine Stadium in Springtown, the Holliday Eagles and the Blue Ridge Tigers faced off in of the most heart-pounding, anxiety- inducing, fever-pitch playoff games in recent memory. The Area round game featured everything a fan could ask for, hard hits, bruising runs, stunning catches, and last-second excitement fit for the silver- screen.

Wildcats season ends with loss to defending champs

It was a true David versus Goliath tale as the Archer City Wildcats battled the back-to-back defending state champions Albany Lions in the Area playoff round on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Newton Field in Graham. Despite a solid effort by the Wildcats, the Lions proved why they were defending champs, beating Archer City 48-14.

Trojans comeback stops Lindsay's upset bid

For the second year in a row, the Windthorst Trojans faced off against the Lindsay Knights in the playoffs, in order to determine who would move on and continue their season into the Thanksgiving break. The Trojans won by a commanding 55-21the last time these two teams me, but this time, the Knights were much better prepared for their Area playoff round clash on Friday, Nov. 22 at Yellow Jacket Stadium in Boyd.
