Trojanettes fall in state semis

The Windthorst Trojanettes’ bid for a repeat came to an end in the state-semifinals with a hard-fought loss to Crawford, 27-29, 24-26, 16-25, on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.

The Lady Pirates (43-7) used a balanced attack from four players using a mixture of spikes and dinks to build sizable leads before the Trojanettes (44-6) stormed back each set.

The Lady Eagles exceeded all expectations in 2023. For a team that returned just four letterwinners from last year’s squad and adding a first-time head coach, few believed the Lady Eagles were capable of an unbeaten run through district and a pair of playoff wins.

Holliday made it look easy. The Eagles (10-1) scored in all three phases – in the first four minutes no less – and essentially ended their bi-district matchup with Eastland (3-8) before it ever really got started in a 44-7 rout.
