The rumors of Holliday’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. The Eagles (8-1, 4-0) moved the ball up and down Veteran’s Field, rolling to a 47-22 win over City View (5-4, 2-2) to give Holliday its fourth-straight district title and first under new head coach Kyle Atwood.
The Archer City Wildcats (4-4) just might be the most dangerous four seed in the Class 2A, Division 1 playoff bracket. They still have a matchup with the Munday Moguls this Friday night, but they will be heavily favored to lock down a playoff spot with a fourth place finish in District 7.
In a game that was rescheduled a week later, Windthorst defeated Archer City 25-14, 258, 25-5, to complete an undefeated run through district on Friday, Oct. 27.
Archer City put up a fight against Hico in its bi-district match on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in Weatherford, but had its season come to an end at the claws of the Tigers.
While the Lady Eagles still have the gold ball trophies from the most recent postseason runs, many of the players who won those trophies have graduated. In fact, just four players are back on the Holliday roster from last year’s trip with many getting their first taste of the postseason in Tuesday night’s bi-district match.
