Lady Cats outlast Windthorst to take over top spot in District 9-2A

As just about everyone expected, the District 9-2A clash between Archer City and Windthorst lived up to the hype. In a showdown of the district’s top two squads, the Lady Cats (14-4, 7-0) outlasted the Trojanettes (8-13, 4-1) in a five-set thriller, 3-2 (25-23, 14-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-10) on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Archer City.

The Lady Cats pushed their winning streak to double-digits while snapping the Trojanettes six-match run. Both teams have two more matches before a rematch on Saturday, Oct. 24, in the regular season finale.

Lady Eagles winning streak halted by Henrietta

The 17th-ranked Holliday Lady Eagles (16-4, 8-1) saw their 12-match winning streak come to a halt at the hands of the Henrietta Lady Cats in a heartbreaking, fiveset (25-21, 21-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-12) affair on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The Lady Eagles bounced back with a 3-0 (25- 21, 25-14, 25-18) sweep of Jacksboro on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Tackett logs triple-double as Trojanettes win sixth-straight

Windthorst’s Tara Tackett continues to fill up the stat sheet, posting a triple-double in the Trojanettes 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-17) win over Bryson on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The talented sophomore logged 10 kills, 14 assists and 14 digs to help Windthorst (8-12, 4-0) run its winning streak to six.

The Archer City Lady Cats (13-4, 6-0) pushed their winning streak to nine with a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Electra (25-12, 25-18, 25-7) and Bryson (25-14, 25-9, 25- 12) on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 10, respectively.

The Sheriff’s Office received 121 Calls for Service during the past seven day period ending Sunday, Oct. 11. On the day of this report there were 25 individuals incarcerated in the Archer County Jail consisting of 23 men and two women. 30 individuals consisting of 18 men and 12 women were arrested and booked into the Archer County Jail during the month of September, 2020.

Senate District 30 runoff gets election date

None of the six candidates got a clear majority of votes for the Senate District 30 unexpired term of Pat Fallon. Shelley Luther and Drew Springer garnered enough votes to face each other in a special runoff election. Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation on Oct.10 setting the date for the runoff on Saturday, Dec. 19. Early voting in this winner take all matchup begins Dec. 9.
