McMurtry’s quest was to turn his hometown into a book town modeled after Hay-on-Why, a Welch village where the streets are lined with bookstores and bibliophiles.

Windthorst Spartans 46 Archer City Wildcats 0 The Windthorst Spartans moved to 6-0 on the season after defeating the Wildcats 46-0 on Thursday, Oct. 9.

The Eagles returned from their bye-week reinvigorated on Friday, Oct. 10, crushing the Millsap Bulldogs to kickoff district play at Don Lucy Field.

Friday’s District 6-2A matchup between bitter rivals Windthorst and Archer City was a tale of two high school football programs in different stages of development. For the Trojans, both sides of the ball teamed with athletes with multiple years of varsity experience.
