The city council of Holliday approved making Hyper-Reach as its new emergency alert system at a cost of $500 per year during its meeting Monday, May 16. County Emergency Management Coordinator Shane Wright presented the information to the council at its previous meeting May 9.

Last Wednesday, Commissioner Wolf called asking about the status of a landfill in Archer County. I told him that since 2015, when I took office, until now, I have never been approached or consulted on the matter of a landfill.

The Archer City Pool will open for the summer on Sunday, May 22, from 2 to 6 p.m. Splash day will take place that day and admission will be free to the public.

After a fiery school board meeting on May 10, the Windthorst ISD administration released a statement regarding a controversial feminism excerpt giving to junior high students. A group of parents came to the May 10 meeting to voice their concerns with the excerpt their children read in a benchmark test.

The Republican and Democratic runoff elections are underway in Archer County with the Commissioner Pct. 2 race to be decided on Tuesday, May 24.

Three Archer City High School journalists competed at the state UIL academic meet on May 6 at the University of Texas and earned four medals. Junior Kadence Huffman received the silver medal in editorial writing and placed fifth in copy editing.
