On Tuesday March 23, there was discussion by the Archer City city council to move the 1999 Ford ambulance to the water department. “That old ambulance we’ve had since ‘99, we were going to get rid of it back when they started the wind farms out here, but the wind farm group came up and wanted us to do their safety and things like that,” City Manager George Huffman said.

Hemmis celebrate 60 years

Arthur and Helen Hemmi celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary with a trip to Broken Bow, Okla., in June 2020. The event was planned and hosted by their five children and spouses: Ginger White, Belinda and Tom O’Brien, Bryan and Kim Hemmi, Pamela and Lloyd Wolf Jr., Stacey and Chad Steinberger. Also celebrating the milestone were their 16 grandchildren, spouses along with nine great-grandchildren. The couple were married on Feb. 10, 1960 and have been blessed with 61 years of married life together in 2021. Arthur is a retired dairy farmer from Hemmi Dairy and Helen is a housewife. The couple are members of Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Scotland. Both enjoy spending time at family get-togethers and outings with their children & families. They also enjoy playing cards and dominoes with family and friends.

The Archer Family Clinic in Archer City received a donation of several new examination tables thanks to a generous donation to the Olney Hamilton Hospital foundation. “Our Hospital Foundation received a generous donation of approximately $4,000 from a donor that resides in Archer City,” Michael Huff, CEO of Olney Hamilton Hospital said.

Details on registration for 2021-22 Windthorst ISD Pre-K and Kindergarten

On Friday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Windthorst Elementary School will have Kindergarten registration for children five years of age by Sept. 1. Please bring copies of your child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, and immunization record. The Kindergarten teachers will give your child a short pre-screening assessment. You will be sent the results of the screening when it has been evaluated. Transfer students who have a screening interview do not have guaranteed enrollment. WISD will contact you as soon as possible, when they know the amount of additional availability in their kindergarten class.

“It’s been quite a party ain’t it?” Gus McCrae said in “Lonesome Dove.” The world lost a gem when Larry McMurtry passed away Thursday, March 25, at the age of 84. An Archer City native, he will long be remembered in the class of great American authors such as John Steinbeck and William Faulkner, leaving behind classics to be read by future generations.

Holliday, Archer City compete in One Act Play bi-district

Archer City and Holliday High Schools competed in the UIL One Act Play bi-district competitions on Tuesday, March 23, and Thursday, March 25, with multiple individuals and plays picking up awards. Holliday High School performed “dirt” by Mandy Conner and will advance to the region contest after a strong performance in the bi-district round in Graham Tuesday, March 23.

Stevens resigning as Lakeside City administrator

The Lakeside City city council accepted the resignation of City Administrator Eric Stevens in a special called meeting Sunday, March 28. Stevens said his last day on the job will be April 20 which is the next regularly scheduled Lakeside City city council meeting.
