The Book Fair, a story of dedication

Body
Stacy Schroeder is the Windthorst ISD librarian, attendance clerk, assistant to the principal, and manager/ organizer of the once-a-year book fair. Mrs. Schroeder let me know several years ago, the book fair was, in the vernacular, a sacred cow. Don’t mess with the book fair, don’t criticize the book fair, don’t even come in the library during that time if you know what’s good for you. My own experience with this huge personal undertaking, only spans a mere four years. Every year I ask Mrs. Schroeder how long the library will be inundated with children’s books? The answer is always a week. (With a reminder of how much work is involved.) I then always ask, “how much money does the library make?” The answer is always - nothing. When Mrs. Schroeder opens the library for several hours after school so working parents can take advantage, this she also does for free.

Book review: Life with Bingo

Body
Your favorite, best friend pooch may know a whole lot more about your life than he or she can tell you, but if you watch closely he or she will let you know with body language ranging from tail wags to barks. Your canine friend shares your joys and sorrows while all the time assessing the character and intentions of people and other animals you come in contact with. After reading "Life with Bingo", you will learn a whole lot about what your dog might really be thinking when you refuse to play fetch or when you serve up table scraps.
"Life with Bingo" was published in 2021 and co-authored by Jim Black and Jim Lewis. The book captures the bond between boy and dog in a unique way. Photo/Nathan Lawson
