On Saturday, Feb. 28, Holliday High and Middle School students performed at the Region Solo and Ensemble contest in Burkburnett. These students received a Superior Rating and advanced to the State contest: Carley Koski on oboe and piano, Carter Koski on piano, Maddie Reynolds on marimba, Bailey Marks on marimba, Andrew Draper on trombone and Sarah Rivers with a vocal solo. Hoff named Eagle Scout

Eli Alvin Hoff, a 15-year-old freshman at Highland Park High School, was recently named an eagle scout. He is the son of Trecie and Randy Hoff and brother to Audrey and CeCe. His grandparents are Cherry and Grady Schenk of Scotland and Barbara and Neil Hoff of Windthorst.

Scotland Town Clean-up set for March 26, 27

The City of Scotland is sponsoring a Town Clean-Up on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27. This is a free service. All residents are encouraged to clean up their property and place items into the large dumpsters located at the Scotland Trash Collection Center on Avenue I behind the fire department. The gates will be open Friday, 4 p.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. or until dumpsters are full. Once the dumpsters reach capacity, the gates will be locked. Please do not put items outside the fence or throw items over the fence. Also, below is a list of items not accepted at any Texas landfill:

Low-interest loans available for Texas producers affected by natural disasters

Texas agricultural producers who lost property due to recent natural disasters may be eligible for U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) physical loss loans. The Farm Service Agency (FSA) offers these low-interest loans to agricultural producers in 41 counties who incurred losses caused by a winter storm that occurred on Feb. 14 to Feb. 20, 2021. Approval is limited to applicants who suffered severe physical losses only, including the loss of buildings and livestock. Applications are due by Nov. 2, 2021.

Hanna named reserve grand champion at Houston

Archer City senior Delaini Hanna won reserve grand champion at the Houston Stock show with her two-year-old dorper. Delaini suffered a major knee injury in the Lady Cats’ Volleyball team’s bi-district win over Alvord in November.

Windthorst without municipal judge

Discussion on a checking account, which will be received due to the municipal judge not returning, took place during the Windthorst city council meeting on Wednesday, March 17. “We did have a checking account when we had our city judge,” City Secretary Debbie Schroeder said.

County schools compete in UIL district one-act play

Archer City, Holliday and Windthorst High Schools competed in the UIL One-Act Play district competitions on Wednesday, March 3, with multiple individuals and plays picking up awards. Archer City high school performed “Radium Girls” and was named the first place show in the district and will advance to the bi-district competition on Thursday, March 25, in Graham.
