It’s not often you see a defense completely dominate an opponent with the innovative offenses you see nowadays. It’s even more rare to see it in the regional semifinals.
After a tremendous year on the volleyball courts for all three Archer County schools, these athletes deserve a little extra recognition. Every one of these athletes and their teammates deserve much more recognition and praise than I can give them. We had a great season with all three schools making the playoffs with Archer City and Holliday advancing to the regional tournament. Without further ado, here’s the ACN Super 10 volleyball team.
Windthorst’s JV went 1-3 at the Bowie JV Tournament from Nov. 22-23. Abby Schroeder averaged 13.8 points per game and was the leading scorer in all four games including a 28 point outing in the 61-30 win over Burkburnett. In the win over the Lady Dogs, Isabel Bussey added 12 points and Gabby Hoegger had 10. Windthorst suffered losses to Lipan (29-21), Muenster (45-14) and Bridgeport (40-27).
If the regular season edition of Holliday and Bells was a heavyweight bout, the playoff edition was the Rumble in the Jungle. The Eagles executed a perfect rope-a-dope defense, bending but not breaking to the Panthers before connecting on the knockout punch in overtime to send Bells to basketball, giving Holliday a 21-14 win.
In a matchup that will be talked about for years to come, Windthorst held on for a 42-40 win over Archer City in an all-Archer County Area showdown. The Wildcats (8-3) left it all on the field while the Trojans (11-1) move on to the regional semifinals where they’ll meet Santo (11-1) on Friday, Nov.
With volleyball season concluded, girls hoops is back underway in Archer County. Holliday 57, Vernon 23 The Lady Eagles opened up their season with a 34-point victory on the road, taking down Vernon 57-23 on Tuesday, Nov.
