It was a perfect sweep for Archer County volleyball this past week with the Lady Cats, Lady Eagles and Trojanettes not dropping a set in five matches. Holliday (30-9) and Windthorst (36-4) each went 2-0 while Archer City (11-20) went 1-0.

Much has been written about how a missed extra point by Shiner 'gave' Windthorst the 2003 Class A State Football Championship. But the Trojans don't have to apologize for their 28-27 victory. The Big Blue Crew fought for every point they got.

Lady Eagles, Trojanettes make first half turn unbeaten

With the first half of district action in the books, both the Holliday Lady Eagles and Windthorst Trojanettes each hold sole possession of first place in their respective districts. Fourth-ranked Windthorst (34-4) completed the clean sweep of the first half having not dropped a set following a 3-0 sweep of rival Archer City (25-11, 25-12, 25-7) last Tuesday.

The Archer County Tax Statements will be mailed on October 1. Some of the statements will look a little different this year due to the special wording mandated by the property tax relief legislation. The residents of Lakeside City have the most noticeable change. The bottom of the statement will appear blank. Please see page 2 of 4 (the backside of page 1). The breakdown of all entities will be on the second page.

Holliday could do no wrong in a lopsided 60-0 rout over a hapless Valley View squad to begin its district season on the right foot. Since moving up to Class 3A in 2020, Valley View has been outscored by Holliday 203-22 in the last four meetings – including an 8-6 win by the Eagles’ JV in 2020 due to a Covid outbreak amongst the varsity.

Bremond runs wild on Trojans

Bremond rushed for 331 yards and pulled away with a 21-0 run from late in the second quarter to the end of the contest in a 35-13 win over Windthorst. The Tigers were led by Tank Scott who rushed for 180 yards and two scores on 19 totes while Bremond quarterback Koben Zan accounted for two touchdown on the ground and one through the air for 166 yards of total offense.

Wildcats doomed by Seymour’s big first half

Seymour quarterback Brayden Loyd threw for five touchdown passes in the first 24:10 of the contest to key the Panthers hot-start in a 46-28 win over Archer City. Loyd went 16-of-24 for 240 yards with scoring tosses of 56, 52, 37, 26 and 9 yards to four separate receivers.
