It was another successful season on the softball diamonds of Archer County. All three programs made the postseason with Holliday and Windthorst advancing two and three rounds deep, respectively.
Windthorst played one bad inning in its regional quarterfinal matchup with Alvord. Unfortunately for the Trojans, the Bulldogs 11-spot in the bottom of the second of game one set the tone for the series and Windthorst’s offense never got rolling in a pair of 11-0 and 1-0 shutouts.
Brock once again proved to be a thorn in the side of Holliday. After taking a 4-3 win in the opener, the blue Eagles poured it on late to clinch the series with a 20-7 victory in game two.
Holliday withstood an early haymaker by Jim Ned to sweep its area series against the Indians on May 11-12. The Eagles held off an early surge to win the opener 9-5 before finishing off the sweep in game two, 11-2.
Sometimes it’s just not your day. That was certainly true for Windthorst as the Trojanettes saw their 2023 campaign come to an end following a 3-2 loss in game three to Collinsville on Sat., May 13, in Boyd.
Windthorst head coach Scott Belcher recently collected his 500th career win in the Trojans 4-2 win over Seymour on April 29. Anyone who knows Belcher should find it as no surprise the Windthorst skipper didn’t want recognition for the honor but rather focus on highlighting his student-athletes over himself.
