Joey Pogue chooses Archer City for recording session

A chance meeting in San Marcos at Cheatham Street Warehouse twenty years ago spawned a musical collaboration resulting in a recording session at the Royal Theater late in June. Joey Pogue, focusing on singing and songwriting after his retirement, called on his old acquaintance Levi Mullen to produce his project.

WHS Class of '65 Reunion

The Windthorst High School Class of 1965 held their fourth class reunion Sunday, June 26, at K of C Hall in Windthorst. Two class members, Leslie Conrady and Bobby Lindeman, are deceased. Of the seventeen graduates eleven were in attendance. A very special guest was Mary Ann Eltife Schroeder, the junior and senior class sponsor.

The Archer County News traveled with Publisher/Editor Nathan Lawson and wife, Callie, to the Gutenberg-Museum in Mainz, Germany. The Gutenberg-Museum is home to two Gutenberg bibles and specializes in printing history. The Lawsons traveled to Germany to visit Callie's parents who were recently stationed in Kaiserslautern. ACISD approves student handbook, code of conduct

The Archer City ISD School Board approved the 2022-2023 student code of conduct and student handbook during its meeting June 27. Superintendent CD Knobloch said the district did not make any changes to either the code of conduct or handbook from the previous year.

Jackson places Archer County in Burn Ban

Archer County Judge Randy Jackson placed the county in an emergency burn ban on Tuesday, June 28, which is set to expire on Sunday, July 10. The order states all outdoor burning in unincorporated areas is banned.

Texasville Opry at Royal Theater Saturday

The Texasville Opry will hit the stage of the Royal Theater this Saturday night, July 9 to feature the popular, “Classic Country Show." Gary Beesinger, Opry Producer stated that the show features performers singing the covers of classic country and western hits from the 60's through the 90's. This is the Opry's 22nd year of shows and a return to the stage after two years of Covid, was kicked off in March and it looks as though the show will keep trucking on.
The Texasville Opry will return to the Royal Theater stage on Saturday, July 9, with its "Classic Country Show." Tickets are $17.50 and preshow reservations are recommended. File photo
