Archer City elects to not pursue parking ordinance

The Archer City Council elected to not go forward with the creation of an ordinance prohibiting the parking of commercial vehicles, trailers, recreational vehicles and boats on city streets after a discussion in the council meeting Thursday, May 19.

The Archer County Commissioner’s Court approved an expenditure of $78,000 from the American Rescue Act Plan funds to be used for 28 new radios for the Sheriff’s Office during its meeting Monday, May 23.

Memorial Day services set

American Legions and VFW posts across the county have set services for Memorial Day which the public is invited to attend. Gary Johnston Post 198 American Legion, Archer City, will remember the fallen heroes from past wars by meeting at the Post home at 232 East Main Street, Archer City at 8 a.m.

It’s the season of High School graduations and I’m always sort of nostalgic when I watch the new crop of Senior’s receive their diploma. There will be gratitude expressed to Coaches, Teachers Staff and Parents who have proudly supported them through their years at school. I admittedly believe that anyone can grow and improve from today forward and do things that may seem impossible to others.

City of Holliday approves new emergency alert system

The city council of Holliday approved making Hyper-Reach as its new emergency alert system at a cost of $500 per year during its meeting Monday, May 16. County Emergency Management Coordinator Shane Wright presented the information to the council at its previous meeting May 9.
