The Archer County News was recently recognized with four awards during the 2023 Texas Press Association’s Texas Better Newspaper Contest at the TPA Conference. Awards were presented at the TPA Convention and Trade Show in College Station on Saturday, June 22.

The Tax Assessor-Collector Association of Texas (TACA) is proud to announce the elec-tion of new board members at the TACA Annual Conference, held from June 2 to June 5, 2024, in Dallas. These newly elected leaders are set to guide TACA in its mission to educate, support, and advance the office of County Tax Assessor- Collectors across Texas.

In a world that thinks that Christianity is a legal system and a bunch of prohibitions against such hot button issues as abortion, euthanasia and assisted suicide, I am writing to say Christ and consequent Christianity is a deeply positive belief and practice.

I love the small-town life! There is something about all the ways that people come together to celebrate, honor, and support each other. The sound of every emergency vehicle available to send kids off to competitions, walking into a familiar café with friends, or just gathering around the grill, all represent the greatness of the small town. We have a lot of pride in our country, Faith in the Lord, and genuine care for each other. There is nothing that can match the American flag going up and the Star-Spangled Banner played during Friday night lights!

Holliday High School won the Lone Star Cup on Thursday, June 13 after a stellar year of academic and athletic achievements over the 2023-2024 school year. The UIL Lone Star Cup, which is awarded annually to one high school in each of the six UIL classifications, is based on team performance in district and state championships in academics and athletics.

The Holliday ISD school board approved the next phase of construction and received an update about ongoing construction during its school board meeting on Monday, June 10. The construction that was approved during the meeting is the third phase of the bond project.
