The Holliday and Windthorst track and field teams competed in the Jacksboro High School Invitational on Thursday, March 19. This packed meet featured 14 teams ranging from 1A to 4A and saw over 500 varsity athletes race against each other.

The Windthorst Trojans competed in the annual Highway 82 Classic on Thursday, March 12, to Saturday, March 14. Big Blue went 3-3 over the threeday tournament, including wins over a couple potential Bi-District opponents.

Over Spring Break, several athletes from the three high schools competed in track meets across the state. Archer City’s Jesse Rodriguez ran at the Pied Piper Relays in Hamlin, Windthorst’s Kyah Frank jumped at the Brad Legan Friends and Family Invitational in Springtown, and Holliday’s Kenli Atwood ran at the Bearcat Relays in Aledo.

The Archer City Lady Cats had split results to open district play this season. After a loss to the Petrolia Lady Pirates on Wednesday, March 11, Archer City bounced back with a 21-10 throttling over the Olney Lady Cubs on Monday, March 16.

The Holliday Lady Eagles are off to a hot start in district play. After holding off the Jacksboro Tigerettes earlier this month, head coach Billy Arbogast and his crew had another tough task ahead of them for their next set of district games.

The Windthorst Trojanettes kicked off district play with a lopsided win over the Seymour Lady Panthers on Thursday, March 12 before their home district-opener against the Petrolia Lady Pirates on Monday, March 16.

The Holliday Eagles opened district play with one of the toughest opponents in the state, the Iowa Park Hawks. The Hawks, who are just off a trip to the 3A-D1 state semifinals, returned nearly all their players from that team and are geared for another deep playoff run.

Over Spring Break, the Archer City Wildcats picked up a pair of impromptu baseball games to keep the skills honed as district rolls around. Their first matchup came against the Class 4A Bridgeport Bulls on Tuesday, March 10. Their second clash was versus the Chico Dragon Friday, March 13.

The Holliday Lady Eagles lost just four seniors from last year’s Area-round qualifying team, and brought back over half of their starting lineup, and head softball coach Billy Arbogast says the expectations are high for his squad.

Archer City softball is coming off back-to-back years of deep playoff runs, and after losing just three seniors to graduation last season, the Lady Cats could be in-line for another exciting postseason stint.
