Archer City, Holliday and Windthorst wrapped up the 2022 regular season with several playoff warmup matches on Friday and Saturday. The Trojanettes snapped (34-8) the Lady Eagles’ (40-3) 30-match winning streak with a stunning fiveset upset over Holliday (14-25, 25-21, 6-25, 25-22, 15-13) on Friday, Oct.

After seeing its 30-match winning streak snapped on Friday, Holliday started a new run with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 26-24) bi-district sweep of Breckenridge on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in Graham. While it may not have been the cleanest performance of the season, the Lady Eagles are moving on to the area round following the sweep of the Lady Bucks.

Archer City’s trip to the postseason was short-lived despite leaving it all on the court. The Lady Cats suffered a narrow, 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-21) defeat to Tolar in the bi-district round on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in Albany.

Windthorst suffered a 20-13 loss to Seymour in a district championship showdown with the Panthers but due to the margin of defeat, still escaped Baylor County with the No. 1 seed for the postseason.

Holliday’s winning ways continued with both the boys and girls cross country teams winning the Region I-3A championships on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. In addition to both teams winning the event, the Eagles and Lady Eagles took home the top-individual champion as Jaycee Lyons and Noah Strohman continued their reign of dominance.

Holliday completed a perfect run through District 7-3A, collecting sweep after sweep after sweep. It’s been over two months since the Lady Eagles dropped a set, dating back 18 matches to an Aug. 27 meeting against Caprock. During their 30-match winning streak, the Lady Eagles have outscored their opposition 791.

The Windthorst offensive line has heard all season how it has been the weak-link of the offense. They silenced all doubters on Friday night.
