Archer City was unable to hold on to an early twoset lead in a five-set loss to Iowa Park on Saturday, Sept. 5, falling 3-2 (29-27, 29-27, 19-25, 16-25, 9-15).
The Windthorst Trojanettes (2-10) ended an eightmatch losing streak on Saturday, Sept. 5, topping City View 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-17). On Tuesday, Sept. 1, the Trojanettes suffered a 0-3 (25-10, 4-25, 23-25) loss to Henrietta.
The Holliday Lady Eagles (7-3) registered their fourthstraight win on Friday, Sept. 4, defeating Eastland in straight sets, 3-0 (25-12, 25- 16, 25-17).
Don’t let the 3-0 score fool you. Holliday needed every point in a sweep of Archer City on the road Tuesday, Sept. 1. The Lady Eagles held on for a 30-28, 25-19, 28-26 win over the Lady Cats to sweep both Archer City and Windthorst in the county rivalry.
Sophomore quarterback Peyton Marchand corralled the high-snap, faked the dive and went off-tackle to the right before breaking the plane of the goal line on Holliday’s twopoint play with 21 seconds remaining to give the Eagles a miraculous come-from-behind victory over Eastland.
The Windthorst Trojans opened their 2020 campaign with a 27-6 victory over the Henrietta Bearcats. Senior Ethan Belcher scored three touchdowns while rushing for 110 yards. He also led the defensive charge with six tackles as the Trojans held the Bearcats to negative rushing yards.
As it turns out, the Archer City Lady Cats are only human. After a perfect 4-0 start without dropping a set, the Lady Cats (4-2) dropped a pair of matches last week, falling to Jacksboro on the road in five sets (25-19, 22-25, 20-25, 25-15, 8-15) on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and at home to Henrietta in a 3-0 sweep (17-25, 22-25, 21-25) on Friday, Aug. 28, .
The Windthorst Trojanettes dropped their sixth and seventh-consecutive matches last week, falling in three to Nocona (13-25, 15-25, 15-25) on Tues., Aug. 25, and in a four-set thriller to Jacksboro (19-25, 20-25, 25-22, 23-25) on Friday, Aug. 28. Windthorst slips to 1-9 on the season.
Holliday finished off its second-straight sweep of a 4A school on Friday, Aug. 28, as the Lady Eagles dominated Vernon (25-14, 25-11, 25-20) to remain unbeaten at home. Holliday improves to 5-3 on the year.
