Wildcats fall to red-hot Indian bats

Picked to finish last. That was the district expectation for the Archer City Wildcats coming into the season. Just a season before, first-year head coach Collin White and his crew finished with just three wins. Fast forward a year later, the Wildcats nearly quadrupled their wins, and even secured a playoff spot. Although the season came to an abrupt end on Thursday, May 1 against the Nocona Indians, the ‘Crazy Cats’ season should be seen as resounding success.

Jim Ned outlasts Lady Eagles in Area round

The Holliday Lady Eagles’ playoff road was as tough as they come. After a tight 2-1 series win over Peaster, the undefeated district winner from District 8, in the Bi-District round a week prior, the Lady Eagles took on a strong Jim Ned Lady Indian team in the Area round on Saturday, May 3.

The Windthorst TrojThe Holliday Lady Eagles are in one of the toughest softball districts in the state. The District 7-3A softball is about as cutthroat as a district could be in the state of Texas. The top four teams in the district are perpetual playoff teams that usually make deep runs year-in and year-out.

Eagles close out district

The Holliday Eagles finished out district play after a two-game series with the Jacksboro Tigers on Tuesday, April 22 and Friday, April 25. Tuesday, April 22 Jacksboro 5 Holliday 2 After a pair of quiet innings to start the contest, senior Steele Skinner gave the Eagles the first lead of the game in the top of the third, slicing a 2-0 pitch in the centerfield gap for an RBI-single.

County tennis teams compete at district meets

District 9-2A Youth prevailed at the District 9-2A meet in Hamilton Park in Wichita Falls on Monday, April 21, and Tuesday, April 22. Not only where the Mixed Doubles district champions freshmen, but also the silver in Mixed Doubles, while the gold in Girls’ Doubles were sophomores.

Canada puts on pitching clinic against Alvord

Sophomore starting pitcher Addi Canada gave up just a single hit in the Lady Cats’ Bi-District round shutout win over the Alvord Lady Bulldogs on Friday, April 25. The righty tossed a five-inning clinic that included eight punchouts out of 16 batters faced while throwing only 69 total pitches.

Wildcats clinch playoff spot
