Archer City High School welcomes new NHS members

The National Honor Society of Archer City High School welcomed 19 new members this past Sunday afternoon with a candle lighting and pinning ceremony at the ACISD auditorium. NHS president Cade Strickland directed the meeting and was assisted by fellow officers Emily Salyers, Vice President/Education Chair, Luke Haehn, Community Service Chair and Carter Hilbers, Secretary/Communication Chair.

Hoggins to celebrate 72nd anniversary

Northern Archer County residents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hoggins will celebrate their 72nd Wedding Anniversary on Oct. 30. The couple were married in Wichita Falls in 1948. Floyd served as Archer County Sheriff for 18 years and Helen owned Helen’s Beauty Shop in Archer City for 30 years. After many summers of traveling with friends and fishing in New Mexico, they now enjoy gardening, sewing, and playing dominoes. They have one daughter, Rhonda Hester and husband Brian of Wichita Falls and one granddaughter, Brandi Guerry and husband Kyle of Knoxville, Tenn. They enjoy two great grandchildren, Jackson and Grace Guerry of Knoxville.

Lakeside City VFD food drive

Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department and the Lakeside City Events Committee are partnering together for the first annual Food for the Holidays Food Drive. All donations will go to the Harvest Food Ministry in Holliday and the items will stay in Archer County.

Tuesday’s, Oct. 27, ice storm caused damage to several trees around Archer City. This tree on West Evergreen fell across the street temporarily restricted traffc. City crews cleared the tree from the roadway.

One-vehicle wreck on Hwy. 25

The icy conditions on the bridge on Hwy. 25 near the Kickapoo cutoff at FM 368 caused a one-car wreck which heavily damaged a small Chevrolet Tuesday, Oct. 27. The 2-year-old passenger and driver escaped injury.

Three vehicle crash on U.S. 281

Archer County Sheriff's Offce, Texas Department of Public Safety and Windthorst first responders responded to a three vehicle crash on U.S. 281 Thursday, Oct. 22. Injuries from the crash were unknown as of press time.
