Body Windthorst is off to a solid start in the 2021 volleyball season, picking up several high-profile wins to kick off the year at the Cool in Boomtown tournament in Burkburnett.

Body Archer City won the gold consolation bracket at the Cool in Boomtown tournament in Burkburnett this past weekend. The Lady Cats go into the second week of the season with a 4-3 record and travel to Graham for the Lu Allen Memorial Tournament this weekend.

Body The Archer City Lady Cats (0-1) were unable to hold on to early momentum in a five-set loss to Bowie (26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 23-25, 14-16) on Monday, Aug. 9, at D.L.

Body Senior corner Hayden Strealy returns an interception during the Eagles’ intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 7.

Body The helmets have been dusted off. The volleyball nets have been hung with care.

Body Expect to see some quality action on the gridiron and on the courts this season in Archer County. All three football squads as well as Holliday volleyball earned high preseason rankings leading into the 2021-22 year.

Body All three Archer County schools plan on streaming regular season home football games for the 2021-22 athletic season. Last year, the UIL temporarily lifted the ban on streaming due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Body In a county rich with baseball talent, it should come as no surprise that Archer County was well-represented on the Class 2A Texas Sports Writers Association All-State squad as five individuals picked up all-state honors.

Body The unidentified flying objects over the Archer City Country Club last Saturday night were discovered to be glowing golf balls. After nine holes of conventional tournament golf before dark, players were treated to a meal before venturing out for nine holes in the dark.
