Archer City got a masterful pitching performance from Jill Liles to keep the Lady Cats’ season alive, tossing a one-hitter in game two to clinch the series. At the plate, the sophomore left her mark, going 5-for-8 with two runs and two RBI, driving in a crucial insurance run in the bottom of the fourth.

Big innings fuel Holliday’s bi-district win

Holliday (30-1) capitalized on a pair of big innings in game one and game two to complete the series sweep of Peaster in the bi-district round on April 29-30. The Lady Eagles move on to meet Ballinger (17-7) in area. Game one and of the series are tabbed for Friday, May 7, beginning at 5 p.m. in Stamford. If necessary, game three is slated for Saturday, May 8, at 11 a.m.
Sophomore Addison Lindemann was nearly unhittable in Holliday’s bi-district sweep of Peaster to send the Lady Eagles to the area round. In 10.0 innings in the circle, she fanned 23 Lady Greyhounds while allowing just four hits.

Things looked dire for Windthorst in both contests of its bi-district series against Lindsay. Down to their final out and trailing 7-6 in the opener, the Lady Knights committed a bases-loaded error to allow the tying run to cross before Bree Kirk delivered a walkoff single back through the box to lift the Trojanettes to an 8-7 win on Thursday, April 29, at Sunrise Optimist Park in Wichita Falls.

Archer City punched five tickets to the UIL State Tennis Tournament in San Antonio during the Region II-2A tennis championships at Richland Tennis Center on April 26-27. “I am so proud and excited for the five we have advancing to state as well as all the athletes who represented Archer City at the regional tournament,” Wildcats’ coach Haley Owen said.

Lady Cats drop pair against Lady Pirates, miss trifecta

The Archer City Lady Cats were district champs in volleyball last fall and in basketball this winter. The Lady Cats had not lost a district game in any of the three team sports. Last Saturday, they had a chance to complete the trifecta with perfect district records, but the Petrolia Lady Pirates were standing in the way. Archer City had beat Petrolia 12-7 back on Tuesday, March 30 to set up the final showdown in the last district matchup of the regular season.

Five compete in regional golf tournamenent

Holliday’s Makayla Smith and Carson Hall each posted top-15 finishes at the Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird for the Region I-3A tournament while Archer City’s Kameron Moss, Shae Parr and Katelyn Casillas competed at the Old Brickyard Golf Course in Ferris in the Region II-2A meet.
